James “Jim” Frank Smith, of Knoxville, born October 30, 1941, in Middlesboro, KY, passed away surrounded by his loving family. Survived by daughters, Christy Ann Smith and Susan Marie Smith DeMarcus and her husband Jeff DeMarcus; granddaughter, Chelsea Smith; grandson, John DeMarcus, great-granddaughter, Taylen DeMarcus; brothers, Tim Smith (Julie), Ray Smith (Retha), David Smith (Debbie), sister, Lynn Smith (Jim) Taylor. Preceded in death by beloved wife, Joyce Smith and parents Tilman and Edna Smith.
Jim was a wonderful father, husband, G, and witness for the Lord. Jim met the love of his life, Joyce Smith, in 1964. Jim and Joyce married in 1965 and spent 54 years together. Jim was in the Air Force when he and Joyce met and as a result, they traveled to many of the states together. Jim and Joyce also lived a year in the Philippine Islands. Jim’s family sends their special thanks, and well wishes, to neighbors, Sherry Bailey and Gina Brown, for their many expressions of care and love for him. His family also sends a thank you to UT Hospital staff. Jim was a member of Hansard's United Methodist Church where he served for over 50 years. He dearly loved his church family and touched many lives through his work.
The family will have a call of convenience at Mynatt Funeral Home, Halls Chapel, on Saturday, November 1, 2025, from 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm. There will be a funeral service for family and friends at Hansard United Methodist Church on Sunday, November 2, 2025, at 2:30 pm, with the burial to follow at 3:30 pm. Pastor Timothy Hankins will be officiating the service.
To his passing moments, Jim expressed his love for God and Jesus Christ, praising the Lord and witnessing until his final moments. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to Hansard United Methodist Church in Maynardville. Condolences may be expressed online at www.mynattfh.com.
