James "Jim" Mayford Mitchell, Jr.

James “Jim” Mitchell, Jr. age 87, of Knoxville, TN passed away after a short illness at UT Medical Center. He was a retired detective with the KPD after 15 years of service. He loved doing yard work, tending to his flower garden, and working on puzzles. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lena and James Mitchell, and brother, Thomas V. Mitchell. He is survived by his wife, Vivian Mitchell; daughters, Cara (James) Speegle, Leslie (Jason) Hensley, Ashley (Chris) Owens; 6 grandchildren; 1 great granddaughter and several nieces and nephews.The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00pm on Monday, October 20, 2025, at Mynatt Funeral Home, Fountain City Chapel followed by a 7pm funeral service, Chaplain Mike Petty officiating. Family and friends will meet at 1:00pm on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, at Mynatt Funeral Home, Fountain City Chapel to leave in procession for a 2:00pm graveside service with full honors provided by the Knoxville Police Department.
