James Thomas Coleman, age 82, passed away peacefully at home, early Tuesday morning, May 5, 2026, with family by his side. He was a member of Piney Grove Baptist Church in Heiskell, TN. He was saved and would testify he “saw the blood that cleansed his soul” that Saturday night. He had many other names such as “Tommy Toes”, “Tippy Toes”, “Toms”, “Thomas”, “James T”, but his most loved name was “Poppy”.
He is survived by his loving wife, Connie Coleman of 40 years; daughters, Lauri Barde (James) and Cynthia Campbell (Paul); sons, J.T. Coleman, and Steve Coleman (Tiffany); stepdaughter, Deanna Elliott (Kevin); stepson Dean Gooch (Kellie); grandchildren, Karter Elliott (Abby), Jack Elliott, Erin Gooch, and Cameron Masters; and fifteen other grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren; father-in-law, Gene Vandagriff; mother-in-law, Norma Vandagriff, sister-in-law, Debbie Rose; brother-in-law Bobby Rose; and special family, Greg Elliott (Wanda), Janice Hatfield, Mike Hamock (Darlene), and Billy Moore (Carolyn). He loved his precious church family of Piney Grove Baptist Church.
Family and friends will meet on Monday, May 11, 2026, at Mynatt Funeral Home, Halls Chapel, at 2:30 pm to go in procession to Piney Grove Baptist Church Cemetery (1412 E. Wolf Valley Rd. Heiskell, TN) for a 4:00 pm Graveside Service, with Rev. Bill Smith and Rev. Billy Moore officiating. Pallbearers: Karter Elliott, Jack Elliott, Landon Coleman, William Taylor, Bobby Rose, and Brian Baldwin.
