James Gerald Coffman, age 92, of Washburn, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 11, 2026, surrounded by his family.
He was a distinguished, hardworking member of the community. He taught for 17 years as the agriculture teacher at Washburn High School. He was the FFA advisor, where his students won many awards. He went on to work as the regional vocational supervisor for East Tennessee, as well as the school bus safety trainer for the East Tennessee area also. He and Faye loved camping, serving as Campground Hosts for Cove Lake State Park for 12 years.
He was preceded in death by his bride of seventy years on January 2, 2026, Lillie Faye (Beeler) Coffman, his parents, Clyde Paris Coffman and Margaret Susan (Harrell) Coffman and brother, Frank Coffman, infant brother Hubert Coffman. He is survived by his children, Patricia (Stephen) Hamilton, Wayne (Darlene Winstead) Coffman, Virginia (James) Collins, and Jay (Heather McFall) Coffman. Grandchildren, Christy (Kenneth) Brown, Kimberly (Frankie) Sexton, Amy (Ben) Holloway, Megan (Rob) Noe, Amanda Coffman, Allison Collins and Adam Collins. His great grandchildren, Katie Lynn Stubblefield, Lauren (Jesse) West, Hunter Sexton, Kenley Brown, Keaton Brown, Carter Coffman, Jackson Noe and Evelyn Noe. Great great grandchildren, Andi Kate Stubblefield, Clay Stubblefield and David West, special caregivers, Darlene Suffridge and Alisha Dalton.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, from 5:00 - 7:00 PM at Mynatt Funeral Home, Halls Chapel, with the funeral to follow at 7:00 PM officiated by Rev. Jerry Epperson. Family and friends will meet at 10:45 AM on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at Grainger Memorial Gardens for an 11:00 am graveside service. Pallbearers: James Collins, Adam Collins, Kenneth Brown, Keaton Brown, Frankie Sexton and Hunter Sexton. Honorary Pallbearers: Gary Acuff, Bobby Joe McGinnis and the deacons of Central View America Christian Church.
