James Carroll Starnes, born December 20, 1936, passed away peacefully on December 8, 2021 at his home. He was a life-long active member of Bookwalter United Methodist Church. James retired from Knoxville News Sentinel after 50 + years of service. Preceded in death by James and Mable Starnes and sister Jean Painter. Survived by wife of 63 years, Alma “Beck” Starnes, daughters Becky (Darrell) Mayes and Lisa (David) Uhlman, son Jim (Tammy) Starnes, grandchildren Kara (Denny) Koontz, Matt (Melissa) Uhlman, Sam (Emily) Uhlman, Alix Starnes, Jenna Mayes, Sydni Starnes, great-grandchildren Krew, Madison, Hudson, Kollins, and Elliott, several nieces, nephews, and cousins. The family wishes to thank Smoky Mountain Hospice. Special thanks to Sheri Rose for her love and care.
