James Scott Brady, age 57, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Sunday, June 28, 2026. Born on August 8, 1968, James lived a life defined by service, loyalty, laughter, and an unwavering love for his family and friends.
James was preceded in death by his beloved parents, James "Jim" and Margaret "Marge" Brady.
He leaves behind the love of his life and devoted wife of 32 years, Shelley Brady of Florida; his sons, Eric (Meghan) Brady of Knoxville and Dylan (Micaela Yzaguirre) Brady of Texas; and the exciting anticipation of welcoming his first grandson, Mason James Brady this October, a blessing he looked forward to with great joy. He is also survived by his siblings, Marc Brady, Patti (Doug) Veach, Sheila Leman, William (Ronna) Brady, and Tanya (Hal) Heber, along with many cherished nieces, nephews, extended family members, and countless friends whose lives were enriched by knowing him.
A proud 1986 graduate of Halls High School, James developed a lifelong passion for the sport of wrestling. He dedicated countless hours as a wrestling coach, referee, and proud wrestling father, investing in generations of young athletes and sharing his love for the sport with all who knew him.
James proudly served his country as a Sergeant in the United States Army during the Gulf War. The friendships he formed during his military service remained some of the most treasured relationships of his life. Since retiring, he looked forward each year to camping and fishing trips with his Army buddies, creating memories, sharing stories, and strengthening the bonds of brotherhood that only military service can create. Following his military service, James dedicated his career to the United States Postal Service, retiring as a Postmaster after years of faithful service to his community. Retirement allowed him to embrace the beach life he loved in Panama City Beach, Florida, where he enjoyed spending time by the water and giving back through volunteer work with Veterans of Foreign War (VFW) Post 10555. Whether lending a helping hand at the VFW or simply sharing stories with friends, James found purpose in serving others and building lasting friendships.
James was a faithful member of Highland View Baptist Church, where his quiet faith and servant's heart reflected the values by which he lived. To know James was to know someone who could brighten any room with his infectious smile, quick wit, and unmistakable sense of humor. He had a remarkable gift for making others laugh, lifting spirits, and making everyone feel welcome. Whether spending time with family, relaxing on the beach, cheering from the wrestling mat, fishing with lifelong friends, or volunteering in his community, James lived each day with generosity, compassion, and joy. Above all, James was a devoted husband, proud father, loving son and brother, loyal friend, and soon-to-be grandfather. His family was his greatest pride, and the love he shared with them will remain a lasting legacy.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday July 8, 2026, from 3:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M.at Mynatt Funeral Home Halls Chapel, followed by a 7:00 P.M. funeral service officiated by Terry Walker and Mark Helton, lifelong friends who had the privilege of knowing James since their school days.

Pallbearers will be Eric Brady, Dylan Brady, Christian West, Matthew Claiborne, Jakob Woods, and Brandon Elkins.
Though his passing leaves an immeasurable void, James's legacy of love, laughter, service, and friendship will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished.
