Hurchel William York

March 11, 1922 — September 14, 2012

Hurchel “Sarge” York, age 90, of Powell passed away Thursday September 13, 2012 at Ben Atchley State Veterans Home. Mr. York was a member of Mt. Herman Methodist Church in Powell. He was a veteran of WWII, having served in the United States Army. Mr. York was a member of the American Legion Post #2, Bright Hope Lodge, Masonic Temple since 1944, Scottish Rites since 1945, and a member of Kerbela Shrine Temple since 1965. Mr. York retired from Oak Ridge National Laboratory in 1987. He was preceded in death by wife of 66 years Christine “Teena” York, mother and father Henry and Elsie York, brothers Howard York and wife Johnnie and Horace York and wife Gladys, sisters Helen Cooke and husband Lum and Evelyn Rhodes and husband Andy. He is survived by special niece Sue Shriner Rhodes and husband Bob, special great niece Meagan Shriner Henline and husband Charlie, great-great niece Carly Jane and great-great nephew William Beck, several nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews and special friend Marlene Garrison. Funeral services will be held 7 pm Sunday at Mynatt Funeral Home Fountain City Chapel with Rev. Gregory Bostick officiating. Family and friends will meet 1:45 pm Monday at Mt. Herman Methodist Church Cemetery for interment at 2 pm. The family will receive friends 5-7 pm Sunday at Mynatt Funeral Home Fountain City.
