Hillard Edgar Rutherford

RUTHERFORD, HILLARD E. – age 99, of Halls, passed away Saturday, March 21, 2026, at Wellington Manor. Hillard was a faithful member of Union Baptist Church of Halls for 52 years, where he served as Deacon and choir member. He was a Veteran of WWII and retired from A&P Groceries. Hillard was beloved by everyone who had the opportunity to know him and positively influenced countless lives. Preceded in death by wife of 71 years Alma (Grubb) Rutherford; parents, Ernest and Roxie (DeMarcus) Rutherford; brothers, Ernie, Jake and Floyd Rutherford. Survived by daughter, Sheila (Curt) Holbert; granddaughters, Melanie (Wes) Dorminey, Heather (Jaron) Densky; great-granddaughters, Eliza and Esme Densky; sister, Sharon (Butch) Drinnen; sisters-in-law, Joan and Margaret Rutherford; and his Wellington Manor family, especially Monica Parks. A very special thanks to Acacia Rutledge of Shalom Hospice for her selfless care and compassion. The family will receive friends at Mynatt Funeral Home, Halls Chapel on Tuesday, March 24th from 5-7 PM with service following, officiated by Rev. Gary Vandergriff. Family and friends will meet at Mynatt Funeral Home at 10:30 AM, Wednesday, March 25th for procession to Union Baptist Cemetery for an 11 AM interment. Full military Honors conducted by Tri-County Honor Guard. Pallbearers: Tim Bright, Jaron Densky, Wes Dorminey, Clyde Henderson, Bob Slagle and Mike Smith. Deacons will serve as honorary pallbearers.
