Harry Vonzel Whetsell, age 76, of Knoxville, TN went home to be with his Savior August 1, 2025. He was a member of Stonewall Baptist Church. He had preached the Gospel for 53 years. He was a member of the Powell Lodge #244 F&AM and 32nd Degree of Scottish Rights.
He was proceeded in death by his parents, Horace and Sophronia Whetsell; sisters, Naomi (Beecher) Breeden and Mable (William) Chambers and twin brother and sister, Horace and Helen Whetsell.
He is survived by wife, Virgie Whetsell; daughters, Angela Clevenger and Rebecca Hodge; granddaughters, Katie Barker and Isabella Clevenger; special great grandson, Greyson “Hot Rod” Barker; two special future grandson-in-laws, Cole Mauk and Kenny Desch; brothers, George (Cindy) Whetsell, Odell Carpenter; sisters, Trula (Charles) Fortner, Joyce Imogene Graham; sister-in-law, Lula Clevenger; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Harry had pastored for 28 years and had to retire after a long battle with cancer. He also worked as Assistant Director of Maintenance at UT Hospital for 33 years. He will be missed by his family and friends and all of those who knew him. He loved to joke and have good clean fun with everyone. Vonzel rest in Peace forever in your Heavenly Home.
The family will receive friends from 5:00pm to 7:00pm Tuesday, August 5, 2025, at Mynatt Funeral Home, Fountain City Chapel. A Masonic Service will begin at 7:00pm on Tuesday to be followed by the funeral service. Rev. Richard Melon, Rev. Justin Tucker, and Rev. Gordon Dykes will officiate.
Friends will meet at Lynnhurst Cemetery at 12:45pm Wednesday, August 6, 2025, for the 1:00pm graveside service. Pallbearers are Dwayne Fortner, Cole Mauk, Ronnie Keys, Gary McGhee, Caleb Graham, and Timothy Whetsell.
