Harold Eric Witt, age 79, went home to be with the Lord on May 24, 2025. He was a member of Green Acres Baptist Church, where he was lovingly known as “the chewing gum man”. He served in the US Army during the Vietnam War. He worked for many years at Young Mine and retired from Robertshaw. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Lillie Witt; siblings, Ethel Eastridge, Billy “Bud” Witt, Ben Witt, Mary Acuff, Bob Witt and John “Johnny” Witt. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Barbara Witt; children, Kevin Welch, Kristi (Rob) Boring; grandchildren, Natasha (Daniel) Finley, Hunter (Mackenzie) Rains, Skyler Rains; great-grandchildren; and the lights of his life, Conner and Lillie Musick; sister, Edna Williams; brother-in-law, Duwayne (Sherry) Busler; sister-in-law, Angel (Sherman) Acuff; and a host of nieces and nephews. A special thank you to UT Hospice, Michelle (his nurse), and Dr. Nathan Smith and his office.
The family will receive friends Monday, June 2, 2025 from 5-7pm with a 7pm funeral service to follow at Mynatt Funeral Home, Fountain City Chapel. Friends and family will meet at 9am Tuesday, June 3, 2025 at Mynatt Funeral Home, Fountain City Chapel to go in procession to East Tennessee Veterans Cemetery on John Sevier highway for a 10am graveside service. Rev. Billy Acuff and Rev. Rickey Hayes officiating. Pallbearers are Kevin Welch, Hunter Rains, Skyler Rains, Conner Musick, Daniel Finley, Zach Acuff, John Jarnagin and Dwight Seal.
