Harold David Potter

February 26, 1944 — May 6, 2026

Potter

Harold “David” Potter, age 82, went peacefully to be with his Savior, Jesus Christ, on the morning of May 6, 2026, at home surrounded by his family.

David was a lifelong resident of Powell and a 1962 graduate of Rule High School. He met his high school sweetheart, Effie Marie Baker, at the age of 16 during a home prayer meeting on May 26, 1961. Immediately after high school, they were married at Scott Street Assembly of God on July 27, 1962. Together, they built a beautiful life that lasted nearly 64 years.

David “Pop” is survived by his faithful wife, Effie, and is the proud father of Tim Potter (Lois), Todd Potter (Beverly), Dana Hall (Tim), Jenn Holt (Denny), and Kendra Jennings (Adam). He is also the proud grandfather of Jerrica, Justin (Erica), Jordan, Jeremy (Rachel), Wesley (Ana), Tyler (Chynna), Sydney (Fernando), Sierra, Trenton, Tucker, Chad, Bethany, Leslie, Mikayala, Makenzie, Hunter, Hayden, and Hudson; and great-grandfather of Emma, Wyatt, Huxley, Paxton, Evan, Bryson, Elias, and a new baby girl, Amelia.

Pop called Dante Church of God home since 1989, faithfully serving as a trustee, council member, and senior elder. He never met a stranger and found great joy in greeting others, making everyone feel welcomed and loved within the body of Christ.

Nothing meant more to Pop than time spent with his family, church family, and lifelong friends. He especially loved trips to the beach and to Cades Cove. A gifted craftsman, Pop spent much of his life building homes throughout the community for family members and completing countless remodels during his long and hardworking career.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Dosha Potter; his brothers, Homer, Arnold, and William Potter; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, James and Elizabeth Baker, along with many others whom he loved dearly.

Awaiting the day they will join him are his entire family and special friends John Johnson, Stacey, and their girls.

A special thank you to Pastor David and Brenda Snyder.

A special thank you to his granddaughter, Jerrica, who was also his amazing nurse throughout this journey.

Family will receive friends for visitation on Friday, May 8, 2026, at Mynatt Funeral Home, Powell Chapel from 5:00pm until 7:00pm with a Celebration of Life service to follow at 7:00pm with Pastor David Snyder officiating.
