Gwendolyn Hunley Oaks

Gwendolyn Hunley Oaks age 79, of Knoxville, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 18, 2024. She was born June 27, 1945, in Knoxville, TN. She is survived by her loving son, Tim Oaks (Sharon), her four grandchildren: Helena Oaks (Dustin DelMoro), James Oaks (Shantelle), Brennan Oaks (Savannah), and Kimberly Shordon (Ian); four great-grandchildren: Ella James, Truett, Theodore, and Elijah Oaks; siblings: Pat Egnoto (Frank), Gary Hunley (Bettye), and Candy Harris (Drew); sister-in-law, Mary Hunley, and she was a beloved aunt to many nieces and nephews. Gwen was preceded in death by wonderful husband, James Oaks, brother, Lonnie Hunley, best friend, Nancy Roach, and parents Alonzo Hunley (Lorraine) and Carrie Hunley. She was a longtime member of Lincoln Park Baptist Church. Gwen was an extremely talented hairdresser and shared her gifts with her students as an instructor at Tennessee School of Beauty in the 1970’s. She cultivated many lifelong friendships there. Gwen was remarkably strong, resilient, and caring. She touched the lives of all of her friends, neighbors, and many people during her life, all of whom will grieve and miss her. The family will receive friends Wednesday, August 21, 2024, from 5:00 - 7:00 pm at Mynatt Funeral Home, Halls Chapel, immediately followed by a 7:00 pm memorial service.
