Glen Ray Laws, age 79, of Knoxville, passed away Tuesday, June 18, 2024, surrounded by his loving children and grandchildren. Glen was born in Knoxville, TN on November 17, 1944 to Joe and Flora Laws. He graduated from Powell High School in 1962. Glen enlisted with the United States Marine Corps in 1962 and served in the Vietnam War until 1966. He married Meribeth Jessee in August 1968 at Sharon Baptist Church. Glen began working at Norfolk Southern Railway in 1972 as a locomotive engineer. He remained there for 33 years making lifelong friendships and entertaining everyone with his bad jokes, pranks, and good humor. Following Meribeth’s passing in 2014, Glen married Alice Hood. They remained active at Beaver Dam Baptist Church where they were active in their Sunday school and life groups. When Alice passed away in 2023, Glen continued doing what he loved most, spoiling his grandchildren who affectionately called him “Gaga.” He was preceded in death by his devoted wife, Meribeth Jessee Laws of 45 years, and his loving wife of 7 years, Alice Hood Laws. He is survived by his two daughters, Monica Laws and Marla (David) Laws Poling both of Knoxville, two step-sons, Chris (Heather) Hood of Pennsylvania, and Scott (Stephanie) Hood of Knoxville; grandchildren: Zachary Poling, Zane (Jenny) Poling and Ashley Poling; step-grandchildren: Abigail and Jackson Hood, and Sullivan and Sutton Hood; The family will receive friends Saturday, June 22, 2024 from 11:00 am – 1:30pm at Beaver Dam Baptist Church, immediately followed by a 1:30 pm funeral service officiated by Dr. Scott Hood, Dr. Alan Price and Rev. Buddy Johnson. Family and friends will travel in procession from the church to Greenwood Cemetery for a 3:00 pm interment. In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be made in his memory to St, Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital or to a local honor guard of your choice. David Poling, Zachary Poling, Zane Poling, Chris Hood and Scott Hood will all be serving as pallbearers. An online obituary may be viewed and condolences made at www.mynattfh.com.
