Gladys Diane “Gumpy” (Kidd) Jernigan

Gladys Diane “Gumpy” (Kidd) Jernigan 61, of Knoxville, TN went to her new home to be with her precious Lord and savior on Monday, September 30, 2024. Diane fought a hard and courageous battle with kidney failure. She graduated from Central High School in 1980 and attended ETSU for a time.

Diane got to travel with her loving husband throughout the United States. She loved to read to her grandson Jaz and enjoyed needle point in her early years. Diane loved to play the piano. Diane worked for K-Mart for many years and painted stores at the East Town Mall when it was being built. She lived in Alabama for a short time, and worked at the Local Mini Mart. Diane attended Belmont Heights Baptist Church and worked with Vacation Bible School.

She is preceded in death by her father and mother, Dock and Gladys Kidd; husband, Ralph Jernigan Jr.; sister, Wanda Roach (John); brother, Wayne Kidd; niece, Danielle Kidd and nephew, Roger Kidd. She is survived by sons, Jeremiah Shane Jernigan and Joshua Dylan Jernigan; grandchildren, Jazten, Jace, Meli, and Lynlee; brothers, Ronnie Kidd, Sammy Kidd and Danny Kidd (Kathy); sister, Darlene Chamberlain (Gene); several nieces and nephews; niece and caregiver, Tammy Kidd who was more like a sister. The family would like to say a special thank you to East Tennessee Nephrology Group and Fresenius Kidney Care for all the support and comfort through this difficult time.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 8, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Mynatt Funeral Home, Fountain City Chapel with a service to follow at 7:00 PM. Pastor Tim Tatum will be officiating. On Wednesday, October 9, 2024, family and friends will meet at 1:45 PM at East Tennessee Veterans Cemetery on John Sevier for a 2:00 PM graveside service.
