Missy George Ann Rutherford, age 66, of Maryville, TN, went home to be with Jesus on Thursday, March 26,2026. She was born on November 1, 1959, in Knoxville, TN, to Francis Ann Fugate and Harold Shane Rutherford, who preceded her in death.
Missy is survived by her two brothers, David Rutherford (Jane) and Harold Rutherford, Jr. (Elaine); nieces and nephews Brian Rutherford (Nancy), Chris Rutherford, Lindsey McDuffie (Ryan), Kimberly Davis (Mitchell) and Amy Moody (Zach); and eleven great nieces and nephews. Maggie, a Bichon Frise, and Hannah, a Bichon Schnauzer, were Missy’s loyal companions who she loved and enjoyed throughout the past twenty-eight years. Missy was a 1977 graduate of Halls High School where she played basketball and excelled in track. She received a Bachelor of Education degree in 1982 from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, where she lettered in track four years. Missy chose a career with UPS where she started as a preloader and retired as a driver in 2016 after working there for 32 years. As a UPS driver, a favorite stop was Coulters Florist. Soon after retiring from UPS Missy began delivering flowers for Coulters. While working at Coulters for the past 10 years, Missy developed many close friendships and had many fun adventures with them, one being the polar plunge at the Y in Townsend. The Ravenwood community in Maryville was home to Missy for over 25 years. She enjoyed chatting with the neighbors and developing close friendships while walking her beloved companion. One of Missy’s favorite things to do was supporting UT sports, especially women’s basketball. She had been a UT football season ticket holder for many years. Missy has always loved the outdoors, and in the last few years has been pursuing vegetable gardening and mushroom cultivation on the family farm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Warrior Freedom Service Dogs, Inc. Email-info@warriorfreedom.org.
