Gary Shoffner, age 71, of Corryton, TN, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 1, 2024 with his loving wife by his side.
Gary was an Army Veteran that served in the Vietnam Era. He began his police career at Anderson County Sheriff’s Office where he worked for years before becoming an officer with the Knoxville Police Department where he retired after 18 years of service. While at KPD, Gary was one of the first Certified Accident Reconstructionist. Gary served on the board for the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) for many years where he was a Camp Director as well as a counselor. He also flagged traffic for KUB for 13 years.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Anita King Shoffner; children, Amanda Shoffner, Abby and Tanner Greeson; grandchildren, Makhi Shoffner, Lelina Owens, Tate Greeson, and soon to be born, “Moped Greeson”; sister, Brenda Coward of Claxton; brother and sister, Carl “Sparky” and Elizabeth King; two nieces, two nephews. The family would love to thank our beloved doctor and friend, Daniel Ibach for his unfailing care, dedication, and friendship for our family for the past 15 years.
Friends may visit with the family on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, at Mynatt Funeral Home, Halls Chapel from 5:00pm until time of funeral service at 7:00pm with Rev. Michael Vandergriff officiating. Family and friends will meet at 9:00am on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, at Mynatt Funeral Home, Halls Chapel to go in procession to East Tennessee Veterans Cemetery for a 10:00am graveside service with full military honors provided by the Knoxville Police Department Honor Guard.
