Freddie Wayne Lay

Freddie Wayne Lay, 73, of Knoxville, TN passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 27, 2026.

He graduated from Powell High School in 1971 and went on to be a part of Local 102, working as a welder and pipe fitter.

Freddie will be remembered for his love of sports, coffee and bacon along with his quick wit, sarcastic comments and ability to hold a conversation on most any subject. He found peace in his later years through his Bible and Christ and as his earthly body grew tired and ready to go home, he asked forgiveness from our savior, and for that we are eternally grateful.

He was preceded in death by parents, Fred C. Lay and Olive Baker Lay; Brother, Scott Lay; Sister, Susan ‘Bunny’ Burchfield and Nephew, Brandon G. Burchfield

He is survived by his children, Tara Lay Miller(Bill), Chris Lay(Samantha), Michael Lay(Kayla); Brother, David Lay; Sister, Jana Lay Poe; Brother, Steve Lay; eight amazing grandchildren that he was very proud of; many nieces and nephews, and good friend, Lynn Rimmer who he spoke to almost every day.
