Fred A. Medley

January 31, 1932 — August 30, 2017

Fred A. Medley, age 85, passed away peacefully after several months of declining health on August 30, 2017. He was born to the late Howard and Theodocia (Gass) Medley on January 31, 1932 and grew up with four siblings in Fountain City. He met the love of his life, Edith Keck, at Fountain City Park when they were in high school. After they were married, they moved to Powell and started their family. As their family grew up, Fred was supportive to them in every way and made his living first as a construction Iron Worker, then worked until his retirement at Martin Marietta, at the X-10 plant. He enjoyed teaching Sunday School and being Sunday School Superintendent at Sunny View Baptist, then Ridgeview Baptist Churches. He also was active with the Powell Masonic Lodge # 582 and the Powell Order of the Eastern Star # 335 as well as the Kerbela Shrine and other fraternal bodies. He and Edith enjoyed many travels ,including trips to Hawaii, Mexico and Europe. He also enjoyed traveling around the country with his motorcycle buddies. But mainly he loved his family and enjoyed family gatherings such as cook-outs and wiener roasts. He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, parents, sister, Rosalee Haun, brother, Frank Medley and infant daughter, Karen Jane Medley. Those who are left to celebrate his life are children, Susie (David) Waddell, Dennis (Diane) Medley and Mark (Melissa) Medley; grandchildren, Chris (Tonya ) and Kevin (fiancé, Stephanie)Waddell; Karen (Doug) Russell; Shane, Katie, Emily and Zachary (Brooke) Medley and Ally (Noah) Seiple. Great grand children are Chris, Jr., Jesse, Alex and Sean Waddell and Rock Russell; Sister, Jewell Purkey and Brother, Henry Medley, and lots of nieces, nephews and special friends. A celebration of life service will be held on Sunday, September 10, 2017 at 2:00 PM in the Worship Center at Ridgeview Baptist Church, 6125 Lacy Road. The family will be available to share your love and remembrances after the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Masonic Widows and Orphans Fund.
