Florence Robinson Alston, age 91, of Knoxville, passed away Monday, January 26, 2026, peacefully at home surrounded by family. She was born July 2,1934 to the late Thomas and Rispy “Housley” Robinson. She was born and raised in Union County where she graduated from Horace Maynard High school in 1954. There she was the captain of the basketball team and voted most athletic her senior year. She was a member of Cedar Ridge Baptist Church and attended Union Baptist Church for over 20 years. She was the youngest girl of 13 siblings.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 59 years, Edward Ray Alston; parents, brothers, Joe, John, Bill, James and Charlie; and sisters, Zelpher, Linda, Satra, Maggie, Della, Ollie and Betty.
Survivors include daughters, Ginger Spangler (Steve) and Tammie Cooper (Mark); grandchildren, Cody Spangler (Jennifer), Caylee Norton (Andy) and Seth Cooper (Madelin); great-grandchildren, Tanner, Jackson, Cole, Waylon, Little Andy and Baby Cooper due August 2026; as well as several special nieces and nephews.
The family will Receive friends from 4-6 PM on Sunday, February 1, 2026, at Mynatt Funeral home, Halls Chapel. A funeral service will follow at 6 PM with Rev. Gary Vandergriff officiating. Family and friends will meet at 12:45 PM on Monday, February 2, 2026, at Lynnhurst Cemetery for an entombment at 1 PM. An online obituary may be viewed, and condolences made at www.mynattfh.com.
