Evelyn Louise (Fawver) Lester, Age 91 of Knoxville, TN, passed away on July 20, 2025, after a short battle with dementia. She died peacefully at her home in Halls Crossroads. She was a former member of Milan Baptist Church, Dutch Valley Baptist Church, Walridge Baptist Church and attended Ball Road Baptist Church where her grandson, Morgan Lester, pastors. She is preceded in death by her husband, Paul Dewey Lester; father and mother, Roland and Margaret (Adcock) Fawver; brothers and sisters, Charlotte “Tottie” Byrd, Hal Fawver, Norma Jane “Janie” Underwood and George Fawver; all of her brothers and sisters in-law, and several nieces and nephews. She is survived by her sons Alex Lester and Kreis (Dawn) Lester; grandchildren Courtney (Steve) Haggard, Morgan (Sara) Lester and Christopher (Nykol) Human; great grandchildren Maddy and Nate Lester, Caitlin, Lily and Anna Haggard; and a whole gang of Lester and Fawver nieces and nephews.
Evelyn was captain of the Carter High basketball team of 1952 and loved to watch college and professional basketball. She was a beautician for over 30 years. Even though she loved her job, her greatest passion was her flowers and trees, and she could be found at all hours of the day (and night) working in her flower beds. Her other love was her family. There was nothing that “Mamaw,” “Aunt Evelyn,” or “Babe” would not do for anyone. Throughout her life, she lovingly, and ferociously, took care of so many of her friends and family.
The family will receive friends on Friday, July 25, 2025, from 5:00pm – 7:00 pm at Mynatt Funeral Home-Halls Chapel, 4131 East Emory Road, Knoxville, TN 37938 followed by the funeral service with Morgan Lester, pastor of Ball Road Baptist Church, officiating. Graveside service will be held on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at 11:00am at Thorn Grove Cemetery, 721 South Carter School Road, Strawberry Plains, TN 37831.
While she may be away from us right now, we know that she is safely in the arms of the Lord who she loved so dearly.
