Evelyn Johnson, 99, of Knoxville, went home to be with the Lord on October 30, 2024. She was a lifelong Knoxville resident, and after graduating from Halls High School, went on to graduate from The University of Tennessee to become a school teacher.
After meeting the love of her life and marrying, she left teaching to become a stay-at-home mom to her one and only child.
She enjoyed gardening, bird watching, and collecting and selling antiques. She and her husband, Elmo, would travel across many states to buy antiques and re-sell them at flea markets. However, many of them wound up as decorations in her home!
Evelyn lived a long life and will be sorely missed by her family and those that knew her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, David and Verdia (Gray) DeMarcus as well as her husband, Carl Elmo Johnson.
Evelyn is survived by her son, Mark Johnson (wife Cyndi); grandson, Doug Hill (wife Misty); and three great grandchildren, Douglas D., Elijah, and Harper Hill.
The family will receive friends on Friday, November 1, 2024, from 11am-12pm at Mynatt Funeral Home, Halls Chapel. The eulogy will be provided by Pastor Doug Hill, following the visitation.
Friends and family will meet at Lynnhurst Cemetery at 12:4 5pm for a 1:00 pm Graveside Service.
Mynatt Funeral Home is honored to serve the Johnson family.
