Ernest E. Hendrix, Jr.

Ernest E. "Junior" Hendrix, Jr. age 91 of Powell, TN passed away Monday, June 2, 2025 unexpectedly at home. 

Ernest was born in Knoxville, TN to the late Ernest E. Hendrix, Sr. and Myrtle Albecht Hendrix.  In 1946, Ernest became a member of Beaver Creek Cumberland Presbyterian Church where he enjoyed worshipping, most of his life.  A 1952 graduate of Powell High School, Ernest was athletic and participated in all the school's sports.  That same love of sports stayed with him throughout his life.  He especially loved cheering on the Tennessee Volunteers.  As a young man, Ernest trained and showed Tennessee Walking Horses, something that gave him a great source of pride.  He spent the majority of his career as an explosive technician.  Ernest loved spending time with his family.

Ernest was preceded in death by his parents; sons, David M. Hendrix and J. David Hendrix; brother, Ralph Hendrix; sisters, Betty Schneider and Virginia Ruth Hendrix.

He is survived by his children, Steven (Debbie) Hendrix, Gary (Sheila) Hendrix and Melanie (Tim) Barnes; grandchildren, Taryn (Cyrus) Painter, Justin (Shelley) Hendrix, Logan (Jana) Hendrix, Brooke Surrett, Ashley (Chase) Randolph, Andrew (Addie) Hendrix, Lauren Hendrix, Michael Hendrix, Heather (Daniel) Barnhart and Tyler Barnes; several great grandchildren; sister, Ethel Monday.

The family will receive friends Thursday, June 5, 2025 from 5:00pm - 7:00pm at Mynatt Funeral Home Powell Chapel followed by a service honoring and remembering Ernest at 7:00pm.  Rev. Mark Hester officiating.
