Elizabeth “Gail” King, 85, of Powell, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center, surrounded by the love of her family.
Born on May 16, 1940, Gail lived a life defined by strength, elegance and unwavering love. She was the beloved wife of Herschel King and a devoted mother, grandmother, great‑grandmother and great‑great‑grandmother. Her faith was a guiding force in her life and she was a longtime member of Wallace Memorial Baptist Church.
She is survived by her loving husband, Herschel King; two daughters, Joan Anderson and Vanessa Haight (the late Bill); grandchildren, Ginger Lewis, Nicole Goad (Tim) and Kelly Haight; great‑grandchildren, Audrey Lewis Cox (Dylan), Autumn Lewis and Elijah Goad. She was also blessed with great‑great‑grandchildren, Blakely Cox, Brystol Cox and Linkin Lawrence. Gail is also survived by her siblings, Shelby Skelton (Janet), Donny Skelton (Darlene), Jerry Skelton (Terry), Marbeth Joseph (Eugene) and Judy Head (Randy), as well as several nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.
Gail will be remembered for her resilience, her grace and her timeless sense of class — the kind of woman who faced life’s challenges with backbone and lipstick. She taught those around her how to be both kind and strong. Her laugh, warmth and wisdom will echo through generations.
She had a true creative spirit and a gifted hand. She loved quilting, crocheting and ceramics. Her home was always filled with the beauty of things she made with love. Gail also had a green thumb and found joy and peace in her garden — where flowers always seemed to bloom a little brighter under her care.
