Edward Gary Meek, Sr.

January 10, 1937 — March 27, 2026

Knoxville

Edward Gary Meek, Sr., age 89, passed away on Friday, March 27, 2026, at his home in the presence of his family. Left to mourn his passing are his wife of 69 years, Shirley Ann Thomas Meek; his son, Edward Gary (Bucky) Meek, Jr. and wife, Kim; his daughter, Shari Meek Garrett and husband, Craig; six grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, many friends, business associates, and Ricky, a special friend and caregiver. He was the child of Louise and Cecil Daniel Meek, Sr., and the middle child of five, predeceased by his siblings, Cecil. Marie, Truan, and Hazen.

His father passed away when he was sixteen, and he began working at an early age. He was a self-made accomplished businessman. Most notably he was a Dale Carnegie Public Speaking Course Instructor, the founding member of the Mid-South Collection Bureau in 1973, a licensed building contractor, a licensed real estate agent, a licensed real estate broker, a licensed auctioneer, and a certified real estate appraiser. He was always looking for the next "big deal," and he had a heart for the underdog.

He graduated from Central High School in 1955 and married his sweetheart, Shirley Ann in 1957. Over the years he had many interests which included water skiing, riding his Honda Goldwing to Sturgis, piling in a bread truck with his son and his son's friends and driving to Indy for the race, participating in the Alzheimer's Foundation Memory Walk in honor and memory of his beloved mother, running in the Buddy's Race For The Cure as a cancer survivor, and watching his children and grandchildren's various sporting events. He loved Christmas morning and would help prepare breakfast and wait on the arrival of his six grandchildren for a "chaotic" Christmas gathering.

Upon his arrival in Heaven, there is no doubt he was greeted by many, many dogs who passed before him and were lucky enough to have been loved by him. He cherished his four-legged friends as if they were family.

The family will receive friends on Monday, March 30, 2026, from 5:00-7:00 PM at Mynatt Funeral Home, Halls Chapel. Family and friends will meet at 12:45 PM on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at Greenwood Cemetery for a 1:00 PM Graveside Service officiated by Dr. Trey Meek. An online obituary may be viewed, and condolences made at www.mynattfh.com.
