Dorothy Pauline Cates

Dorothy Pauline Cates, age 80, of Knoxville, passed away on Wednesday, June 11, 2025.

She worked at Home Federal Bank for over 20 years. Dorothy was a member of Glory Church at Dante, formally known as Dante Baptist Church, since 1985. There at Glory Church, she helped on the GEMS team. Dorothy was also a member of the Red Hats Society.

Preceded in death by parents, Samuel and Edith McMurry; son, J.R. Cates; brothers, Mike, Fred, Ralph, Donny and Gary McMurry.

Survived by her husband of 63 years, Ranesom Cates; son, Gene Cates (Kathy); grandchildren, Kendall Cates, Cameron Cates (Anna); great grandchildren, Violet and Chloe Cates; siblings, Brenda Thurman (Hugh), Judy Longmire, Dale McMurry (Sherry), Alvin “Bub” McMurry (Linda), Terry McMurry (Donna), Howard McMurry.

The family would like to extend a sincere thanks to the staff at Wellington Manor for their care of Dorothy.

Family will receive friends for visitation on Sunday, June 15, 2025, at Mynatt Funeral Home, Powell Chapel from 4:00pm-6:00pm with a service to follow at 6:00pm. Pastor Isaac Murphy will be officiating the service. Family and friends will meet on Monday, June 16, 2025, at 10:45am at Cate Cemetery in New Market for an 11:00am graveside service.

In lieu of flowers, family is requesting donations be made in Dorothy’s honor to the Sjögren's Foundation.
