Dorothy Nadine (Lusby) Amburn

Dorothy Nadine (Lusby) Amburn departed this phase of life at 93 years of age on the 16th of July 2026 and has taken up new residence with her heavenly Father and her departed loved ones. She leaves behind 19 great grandchildren, 7 grandchildren, 4 children, a devoted husband of 75 years along with a host of nephews, nieces, and friends. Born in Knoxville, Tennessee and a graduate of Central High School, she married Henry Gordon Amburn on the 22nd of March, 1951 and raised 4 children: Don Cheri, Kathy, and David. She worked as an administrative assistant at TEC for 5 years and as the administrative assistant for the director of personnel at Philips Consumer Electronics for 10 years. Dorothy’s legacy included not only in helping her children build their own spiritual foundation but also in that of her grandchildren as well. She saw her family through challenges from losing their first home to a fire to wars to tough economic times and personal tragedies, and she was there during those times of joy including marriages, careers, and the births of grandchildren and great grandchildren. Anyone that has ever known her will remember her as a kind caring person whose compassion and concern for others was liberally applied to anyone she met whether they were “prince or pauper”. Many of her sayings follow us in our lives to include the famous, “It will be better tomorrow” advice when everything seemed so overwhelming. She was known by her friends and acquaintances, many of them through family associations and church as “Dot” and had been an active member of Cedar Springs Presbyterian Church since 1960. We remember her in our hearts as is written in Proverbs 31: 28-29, “Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also and he praises her”. Dorothy was proceeded in death by: her mother Ruth Givens Lusby, who almost single handedly raised her and her 5 siblings, and her grandmother Bryant Brown. Also passed are her siblings: Barbara Templin, Jim Lusby, Jack Lusby, Thelma White, and William (Bill) Lusby. She is survived by: her loving husband Gordon Amburn; her son Don Amburn (Sandra) along with their two daughters, Alexa Wilson (Mike), and daughters (Annabelle, Scarlet and Magnolia). Cassie Amburn, daughters (Morgan, Dawn, Sadie, and Abbigail); Cheri Gwinn (Brad), children (Justin McConkey and Kelsey Healy (Charlie) and son (Henry); Kathy Hopkins (David), children Michael (Rochelle), children (Ryan and Cidney). Hannah Barnhart, (Zach) and 4 children, (Nora, Haddon, Owen, and Zoe), Rachel Heath (Jared). David Amburn, children, Ashton Kowalewski (Kevin) along with her daughter Maevery and her son Raleigh, Conner Amburn (Ashley), children Holston, Sutton and Annie. Pallbearers are: Don Amburn, David Amburn, David Hopkins, Brad Gwinn, and Justin McConkey Honorary Pall Bearers are: Conner Amburn, Michael Hopkins, Kevin Kowalewski, Charlie Healy, Mike Wilson and Jared Heath.

Pastor Zach Barnart will be officiating the remembrance ceremony. Services will be held on the 21st of July at Mynatt’s Funeral Home at 2000 Powell Drive, Powell, Tennessee starting with the receiving of friends followed by the service from 4:00 – 6:00 PM and ending with a celebration of life. Those attending are encouraged to wear clothing or an accessory in her favorite color (purple).
