Doris Meredith Sams

Doris Meredith Sams, age 99, of Powell, TN, went to be with her Heavenly Father on June 19, 2026. She was born on November 17, 1926 in LaFollette, TN to Francis Marion Meredith and Bash Sheba Irwin Meredith. She graduated from Powell High School in 1944 and later attended Tennessee Wesleyan College. She was a long time member of Powell United Methodist Church. She leaves a legacy of love, kindness, and generosity to all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul (Bud) Sams; son, David Meredith Sams; sister, Wanda Trammell (Joe); brothers, Leland Meredith (Polly); Jim (Red) Meredith (Katherine); Cecil (Dick) Meredith (Myrtle); and Clyde Meredith (Nettie); Nephew, Woody Trammell; nieces Donna Mullins and Sharon (Sherry) Jones (Rick); Sister in Law, Doris (Dokey) Sams.

She was survived by Daughter in Law, Karen Maples Sams; special granddaughters Kelly Brooks (Tommy) and Samantha Frazier (Michael); Great Granddaughters and Great Grandsons: Madeliene & Silvia Brooks; Ben, Jack, and Katelyn Frazier. Nieces and Nephews: Jennie Cowart, Elaine Teague (Danny), John Meredith (Pam), Nancy Brightly (Jeff), Jeff Meredith (Beverly), Roger Meredith (Rose). Several Great Nieces and Nephews and Great-Great Nieces and Nephews. A host of beloved friends; best friend and caregiver, Margaret Trammell.

The family would like to especially thank her special caregivers: Tammy, Sandra, Billie, Haley, and UT Hospice for their love and care.

Family and friends will meet at Lynnhurst Cemetery at 10:45am on Saturday, June 17, 2026, for a 11:00 graveside service and internment. Reverend Will Shelton and dear friend, Lucille Shreve, will be officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Powell United Methodist Church for Guatemala Missions, at 323 West Emory Road, Powell, TN 37849.
