Donna Murray

May 13, 1958 — April 8, 2026

Donna Kitts Murray, 67, passed away on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, at her home in Halls, Tennessee with her daughter Amber Murray and her beloved dog Pippa by her side.

Donna was a lifelong resident of Halls. She was the second of eight children, the eldest daughter of Reverend Elbert Kitts and Ellen Kitts.

Donna taught cosmetology at Halls High School for 20 years and owned the Pro Cuts salon until 2025. Cosmetology was a real passion for Donna, she never stopped learning more about how to cut, color and style hair, often using herself as a test subject. As sick as she was during her last week, she still redid her color three times simply because she enjoyed it so much. She had some clients for more than 30 years, and loved helping as many clients as possible feel their best.

Donna also loved imparting her knowledge on to her students. She cared deeply about them, not just as students but as people. She was generous with her time and care and would do everything she could to support anyone who came to her seeking help.

Donna had a real sense of adventure. She could be spontaneous and daring, and enjoyed finding adventure around the world. She traveled frequently, including taking many road trips with her daughter throughout Europe and Africa. Closer to home, she loved the thrill of a good rollercoaster the bigger and faster, the better in her eyes. In recent days, one of her biggest regrets was not being able to go skydiving.

Her sense of adventure was likely fueled by her inherent feistiness. Donna brought a sheer force of will to the world. It helped her during challenging times and inspired her during times of growth.

Overall, Donna loved people. She never met a stranger she didn’t want to turn into a friend.

Donna is survived by her daughter Amber; her son Aaron Murray (Hilary); three granddaughters, Lyra, Mila and June; and her siblings David Kitts (Cindy), Ron Kitts (Kelly), John Kitts (Jennifer) and Angie Bright (Chad). She is preceded in death by her parents Elbert and Ellen, as well as her brothers Tim, Dan, and Paul Kitts.

A celebration of Donna’s life will be held at Mynatt Funeral Home, Halls Chapel on Sunday, April 12, 2026, from 3:00pm to 5:00pm, with a service at 5:00pm to follow. Donna hated funerals but loved fun, the color pink and springtime. If Donna touched your life in a positive way, please come share your memories, wear a joyful color (especially pink if you have it), and celebrate her life with her family and friends.
