Donald Thomas Cathey, age 77, of Knoxville, Tennessee, entered into the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Friday, March 13, 2026.
A man of strong faith, Donald lived his life guided by his love for Jesus and the values of kindness, humility, and devotion to family. His faith was the foundation of who he was, shaping the way he lived and the way he treated others.
Donald was known for his intelligence and his witty sense of humor. He had a natural ability to bring both wisdom and laughter to those around him, and his steady presence made him someone people trusted and respected.
He worked as an Automotive Engineer for many years before retiring to focus on the things he loved most. In retirement, Donald enjoyed fishing, gardening, cooking, woodworking, and tinkering in the garage. He took great satisfaction in working with his hands, solving problems, and creating things that could be shared with those he loved.
Above all, Donald cherished his family and took great pride in the generations that followed him. His love, guidance, and example will continue to live on through them.
He is survived by his daughter, Angela (Tom) Hopkins; his grandchildren, Tyler Laird (Mallory Samler) and Logan Laird (Stephanie Hoover); and his great-grandchildren, Grayson Laird, Haisley Laird, Jaxson Samler, and Hudson Hoover.
Donald was preceded in death by his loving wife, Lorna Cathey; his parents, Thomas Cathey and Ola Mae (Kirks) Cathey; and his son, Bradley Cathey.
Donald will be remembered for his intelligence, humor, unwavering faith, and the deep love he shared with his family and friends. Though he is no longer with us, we take comfort in knowing he is at peace in the presence of the Lord, and his legacy will remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
