Dennis Keith Hackett “Dennie”, age 72, of Heiskell, TN, died peacefully Friday morning April 5, 2024 at University of Tennessee Medical Center, Knoxville, TN. He was born October 16, 1951 in Fort Wayne, Indiana to the late Merrill and Edith Hackett.
He was a 1970 graduate of Carroll High School in Fort Wayne where he played football and was in the band also. Married since August 30, 1975 to Mary Jackson, and one son, Keith, who was joyfully born to them on November 2, 1989. Dennie held B.S. degrees in Chemistry and Biological Sciences at Indiana University, followed later by a B.S. degree in Allied Health Professions/Circulation Technology at Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio in 1986. His medical career began as an E.R. Tech, later a Paramedic out of Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne, Indiana, where he also served for the hospitals mobile intensive care unit. Since March of 1986 until his retirement in December 2018 he served as a Perfusionist in heart surgery at Baptist Hospital, St. Mary’s Medical Center, Mercy Health Systems, Tennova Healthcare of Knoxville, and Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. Dennie had a love of nature, travel, horticulture, music, and could fix almost anything. His greatest love he gave to his family, and if you were his friend, it was for life.
Preceded in death by parents, Merrill and Edith Hackett; brother-in-law, William Arthur Jackson.
Survived by wife, Mary Hackett of Heiskell, TN; son, Keith Norris Hackett of Knoxville, TN; brothers, Gary Hackett (Cheryl) of Fort Wayne, IN, Steve Hackett (Sheryl) of Churubusco, IN; brothers-in-law, Carl Jackson (Rebecca) of Kendallville, IN, Virgil Jackson (Kelly) of Mesa Arizona.
Friends may visit with the family on Thursday, April 11, 2024, from 5:00pm until 7:00pm at Mynatt Funeral Home Powell Chapel, 2000 Powell Dr., Powell, TN 37849. Family and friends will meet on Friday, April 12, 2024 at 10:00am at Mynatt Funeral Home Powell Chapel to go in procession to Norris Memorial Gardens for a 11:00pm graveside service
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Dennie’s honor to Young Williams Animal Center in Knoxville, TN, Remote Area Medical in Rockford, TN, and the Food Pantry/Clothes Closet at Powell Church, 323 W. Emory Rd., Powell, TN 37849.
