Retired Sgt. Maj. David William Hodson, USMC, 76, of Knoxville, Tennessee, passed away on May 9, 2025. Born June 14, 1948, David was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and proud Marine who served his country and community with unwavering honor.
David served in the United States Marine Corps from 1968 to 1994, completing two tours in Vietnam and one in Desert Storm, earning respect for his courage and leadership. After retiring, he owned Green Valley Nursery for 33 years, enhancing Knoxville’s beauty through his passion for landscaping, and served as a bailiff for the Knox County Court System, where his integrity shone. A faithful member of Fairview Baptist Church.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Brenda Hodson; daughter, Leanne Wyrick; son, Brent Hodson, and his wife, Allyson; grandchildren, Jake Wyrick, Max Wyrick, Elijah Hodson, Emmaline Hodson, Edan Hodson, Ezra Hodson, and Elam Hodson; siblings, Peggy Lahman (Jim), Bill Sneed (Helen), and Bobby Hodson (Sharon); brother-in-law, David Smith; sister-in-law, Beverly Hodson; and many cherished nieces and nephews. David was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Helen Hodson; brother, Dennis Hodson; and sister, Polly Smith.
David’s strength, kindness, and steadfast commitment to family, faith, and country will forever inspire those who knew him.
Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, from 4:00pm until 7:00pm with a service to follow at 7:00pm at Mynatt Funeral Home, Powell Chapel with Dr. Jeff LaBorg and Rev. Brent Hodson officiating. Friends and family will meet at Mynatt Funeral Home, Powell Chapel on Thursday, May 15, 2025, at 7:30am to go in procession to East Tennessee Veterans Cemetery for an 8:30am graveside service with full military honors and pallbearers provided by the Marine Honor Guard.
