David (“Bucky”) Lawson was born on July 29, 1940, in Knoxville, Tennessee, and passed away on January 23, 2026, in Knoxville, Tennessee.
David was a Navy veteran and devoted fifty-four years to law enforcement, retiring as a Captain with the Knoxville Police Department and later serving as a warrants officer with the Knox County Sheriff’s Department.
He was preceded in death by his father, Vernon Lawson; his mother, Ruth Johnson; his daughter, Tracy; and his grandson, Josh Wagner. He is survived by his devoted wife of thirty-nine years, Myra Lawson; his sons, Mike Lawson and Rob Wagner; three granddaughters; three great-grandchildren; his sister, Jean Johnson; his brother, Jeff Johnson, and his wife, Linda; his aunt, Betty McGill; and several nieces and nephews. He was greatly loved and will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
He was a faithful member of Rocky Hill Baptist Church.
His funeral service will be on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, at Mynatt Funeral Powell Chapel located at 2000 Powell Drive, Powell, Tennessee 37849, with visitation from 5:00pm to 7:00pm and a service immediately after at 7:00pm. The service will be officiated by Reverend Mark McCoig. A gravesite burial for family and close friends will take place Thursday, January 29, 2026, at Greenwood Cemetery, located at 3500 Tazewell Pike, Knoxville, TN 37918, with all meeting at Greenwood Cemetery at 12:45 pm for a 1:00 pm service.
Pallbearers will be Ray Johnson, Dale Bledsoe, Will Lewis, Tate Foster, Griffin Foster, and Zack Brown.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Salvation Army or Young Williams Animal Shelter.
Mynatt Funeral Home, Powell Chapel is in charge of final arrangements.
