Cheryl Denise (Homan) McArtor, age 78, of Knoxville, TN, passed away on Wednesday, November 19, 2025. She was born on March 30, 1947, in Waukegan, IL, to Elmer and Jayne Homan. Cheryl’s family was among the founding families of Fox Lake, IL, where she spent much of her childhood. Her parents owned Homan’s Sporting Goods and Bait Shop, where Cheryl and her brother, Richard grew up.
Cheryl graduated from Grant High School and spent most of her life in and around the Fox Lake area before moving to Tennessee. She worked in medical billing and accounts payable for many years before retirement.
In 1969, Cheryl married the love of her life, Hubert McArtor, and together they shared 56 wonderful years of marriage. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother, and a proud grandmother and great-grandmother. Cheryl is survived by her husband, Hubert; daughters, Tracie (Skip) Mandel and Janie (Keith) Magnus; seven grandchildren: Brandon, Joshua, and Jesiah Gonzalez, Keenan, Kerrigan, Kayden, and Kellen Magnus; and three great-grandchildren: Elliott, Zachary, and Evelyn Gonzalez; as well as her brother, Richard (Jackie) Homan.
Cheryl was fun-loving, spirited, and full of life. She loved music and dancing, always ready for a game of friendly competition. A passionate gardener, Cheryl had a knack for growing beautiful flowers that brightened any space. She and Hubert mutually shared a love for travel, creating countless cherished memories together over the years.
Cheryl had a gift for making others feel special, especially when celebrating birthdays and holidays. Her warmth, generosity, and joyful presence will be dearly missed by all who loved her.
Cheryl is preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Jayne Homan, and her beloved son, Michael Dean McArtor.
The family will receive friends on December 4, 2025, from 4:00 – 6:00pm at Mynatt Funeral Home, Halls Chapel. A service will follow at 6:00pm officiated by Rev. David Maude. A graveside service will be held on December 5, 2025, at 10:00am at East Tennessee Veteran’s Cemetery-John Siever.
