Charles Stacy Long

Apr 29, 1932 — Sep 8, 2026

Charles “Chuck” Stacy Long, 94, passed away on Tuesday, September 8, 2026. Born to Fred and Emma Long, Charles was a lifelong Knoxvillian. He was a beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather. A born storyteller, Charles often regaled his family with colorful stories about his time on the Knoxville Police force, including running the city jail, and as head of security for events at Knoxville Civic Coliseum. As Tim and Stacia can tell you, their dad got them and their friends into countless concerts, from The Jackson 5 to the Eagles. He was also a passionate University of Tennessee sports fan. He served as president of the Lady Vols Boost Her Club for years and was a Tennessee Football season ticket holder. His family was never short on orange and white shakers and foam hands. Charles was a graduate of Knox High School (‘50) and a veteran of the United States Navy. He was a former member of the Kerbela Shriners and the Elks Lodge. He was also a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association. Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Emma Long and his wife of more than 30 years, Marion Long. He is survived by his son, Tim Long (Lori) and daughter, Stacia Ayres (Kenneth); grandchildren, Jason, Daniel (Alicia), William Hamilton, Megan Waugh (Brent), Emily Gallardo (Gage); and his faithful pup, Charlie.
