Charles Donald Hays

Charles Hays, fondly known as Charlie, or Uncle Charlie to many, 74, of Powell, TN, passed peacefully into the presence of his Savior on August 14, 2023. He lived a life defined by his commitment to his faith, his family, his country and his community. He was a charter member of The Church at Sterchi Hills and a Vietnam Veteran of the United States Air Force. Charles had a career as a machine and HVAC technician and dedicated a significant amount of time volunteering at the Western Heights Baptist Center before he retired. Upon retirement, he spent years working as a missionary for Big Creek Missions in Kentucky, aiding the Appalachian community. He was known for his humility, kindness and willingness to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Charles was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Diana Williams Hays; parents, Luke and Charlsie Hays. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Amy and Tom Larson; grandsons, Micah, Elijah and Jacob Larson; sister and brother-in-law, Jean and Fred Peretz, and their daughter, Annie. The family will receive friends from 3:00-5:00 pm on Saturday, August 18, at The Church at Sterchi Hills, in North Knoxville. A Celebration of Life service to follow at 5:00 pm, officiated by Pastor Joel Dew. Interment will be at 11:00 am, Monday, August 21, 2023, at Woodhaven Memorial Gardens.
