Charles “David” Anderson, of Knoxville, TN, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, at the age of 84. David is survived by the love of his life and wife of 64 years, Polly Anderson; three children, Paul (Stephanie) Anderson, Michelle (Danny) Carter, and Christopher (Leslie) Anderson; six grandchildren, Jessica, Sadie, Sarah, Jacob, Cooper, and Trent; three great-grandchildren, Iris, Robin, and Hazel; two sisters, Judy Caldwell and Faye Poole; and many other beloved friends and family members. David was preceded in death by his dear mother, Ruth Anderson; father, Clifford Anderson; and brother, Hugh Lee Anderson.
David lived his life in service to his friends and family, always putting the needs of others before his own. This is evident by his dedication to his family and their well-being; in his career as a truck-driver, David commuted from Knoxville, TN to Charlotte, NC every week for 20 years to ensure that his family could continue to live in Knoxville where they felt at home. These long commutes and long weeks away from home were an enormous sacrifice that he was willing to make for the greater good of his family.
David’s life was also marked by his many hobbies, including his love for classic cars and “hot rods”. When he was not working and during his retirement, he could always be found in his garage working on one of the many car projects he took on over the course of his life. This passion sparked many friendships created by his regular attendance of car shows; the coffee and fellowship he shared with his friends at these car shows was one of the highlights of his life.
David’s love of golf also blossomed during the later years of his life, as he took on a job at Three Ridges Golf Course for many years. He oftentimes joked that this was not a job and he would “do it for free” just so he could be out on the course with friends.
The passion which David had for his Tennessee Volunteers was evident; he always kept track of upcoming games, no matter the sport. He loved being able to discuss, among many other things, the Vols with his grandson, Jacob, at their weekly Waffle House breakfast.
David was a staunch believer in his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He was a member of Salem Baptist Church for nearly 44 years. David loved being able to greet both familiar and new faces at the entryway of Salem; he was always eager for others to share in the Gospel and gather in worshipping the Lord.
David will be missed dearly by friends and family alike. He lived his life to the fullest with lots of laughter, tears, and celebration. He accomplished his goals in life and succeeded with his desire to be known as a man who was always there for his friends and family.
