Catherine Marie Anderson

Catherine Marie Reno Anderson, born in Sanford, Tennessee on November 30, 1932, passed away peacefully at her home in Powell, Tennessee on May 18, 2023 at the age of 90. 

A graduate of  Bearden High School, Marie worked as a receptionist and dental assistant for her husband, Dr. Anderson, the love of her life.

Preceded in death by her parents John Henry and Fannie Lou (Epperson) Reno; her husband of 52 years, Dr. H. Edward Anderson, and daughter Cheryl Elizabeth (Anderson) Matthews.

She is survived by her son-in-law, Alan Matthews and grandchildren, Ian and Lydia Matthews.  Her niece, Dr. Jennifer Norse and husband, Otfried “Putt” Ulbing; nephew, Carl and wife, Diane Williams and many, many cousins and friends.

Marie and her husband Ed were faithful charter members of The Church at Sterchi Hills. She was the long time Sunday School teacher for the Dorcas - Joy class and treasurer for the Prime Timers. Marie was such a bright light. Everyone who knew Marie can attest to the love and kindness she exuded. Her generous and creative spirit led her to care deeply for those around her. At 90 she was still crocheting hats for cancer patients. She loved gardening and growing vegetables, which she enthusiastically canned. Marie’s creative talents were perhaps best displayed in her incredibly delicate hand painted jewelry and her skillful quilt making. Marie will be remembered as a strong, wonderful, and outstanding woman who lived a long life filled with love and appreciation. Her ability to make every person she met feel special and loved will be missed and dearly remembered. May the faith filled life she led be an example for all of us to follow.

The family will receive friends at the Church of Sterchi Hills, Wednesday, May 24, 2023, 5:00pm - 7:00pm, with funeral service to follow at 7:00pm. Interment will be Thursday, May 25, 2023, 11:00am at Woodlawn Cemetery
