Billie-Jo King was born on April 5, 1943, to the Rev. William and Vera Wallace in Knoxville, Tennessee and went to be with the Lord on June 22, 2025. She is preceded in death by her parents and her older sister Noley Ruth Campbell.
She graduated from Fulton High School and worked as a physician’s assistant to Dr. A. H. Lancaster and then as a surgical technologist at St. Mary’s Hospital. She was an active member of First Baptist Church of Fountain City where she lived out her faith by teaching GA’s, working in the nursery, serving at the food bank, and caring for others every time the opportunity arose. She will forever be remembered for the cards of celebration, sympathy, or encouragement that she sent; her visits to the hospital or to those recuperating at home; and the meals she brought to those adjusting to a new baby, grieving the loss of a loved one, or recovering from sickness or surgery.
The job she was most devoted to was that of being a mother to her six children. She never missed a field trip, was first in line for afternoon carpool with snacks and drinks on hand, packed every lunch, would not go to bed with dirty laundry in the house, and made sure her family enjoyed a home-cooked dinner every night together. She taught her kids the importance of caring for others by bringing them along to deliver for Meals on Wheels, visit the residents at local nursing homes, or serve meals at the soup kitchen.
Billie-Jo will forever be cherished by her loving husband Willie King, who has stayed by her side in their 45 years of marriage. She is also survived by her four sons, two daughters, and eleven grandchildren. Her children include Bryan Reynolds of Uniontown, Ohio; Christopher (Toffer) King and his wife Becky of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; Samantha (Sam) Oakley and her husband Dave of Monroe, North Carolina; Nicholas (Shande) King of Nashville, Tennessee; Miguel (Migi) King and his wife Lisa of Jonesborough, Tennessee; and Kathlene (Cami) Hansen and her husband Robbie of Knoxville, Tennessee.
Her grandchildren include Samuel, Benjamin, Isaac, Daniel, and Abigail King of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; Elijah, Taylor, and Sadie Oakley of Monroe, North Carolina; Nora King of Jonesborough, Tennessee; and Bennett and Brock Hansen of Knoxville, Tennessee.
A memorial service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 25, with the family receiving friends from 5:00 until the service at Mynatt Funeral Home - Powell Chapel. A graveside service will follow at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 26, at Bell’s Campground Cemetery.
