Betty Mouron Lane, age 93, of Knoxville, Tennessee, went to be with the Lord on May 19, 2025. She was a longtime member of Central Baptist Church of Fountain City. Betty was a 1950 graduate of Halls High School and attended the University of Tennessee, where she studied accounting. She was a lifelong fan of all things Tennessee Athletics.
She worked at the Knoxville News Sentinel, the Halls Shopper, and the Knoxville Academy of Medicine. While serving as President of the PTA at Fountain City Elementary School, she helped establish one of the first “Read With Me” programs for parents and children.
Born on January 24, 1932, to Alfred Mouron and Fannie Latham in Knoxville, Betty was a proud daughter of a French-Swiss emigrant. At a very young age, her family moved from South Knoxville to Halls Crossroads.
She was married for 67 years to her beloved husband, Marvin Lane of Knoxville. They lived in the heart of Fountain City for over 50 years. Together, they were faithful members of Central Baptist Church, where they served for many years as directors of the 8th Grade Sunday School Department.
Betty loved camping, crocheting, quilting, watching Tennessee games with their close-knit group of friends—affectionately known as the “Great 8 Couples”—and cooking for family and friends. She had a deep and abiding love for her family and expressed it in countless meaningful ways.
She is survived by her children: Jeffrey (Janice) Lane of Knoxville and Denise Deapen of Weatherford, Texas; grandchildren: Jennifer (Jeff) Ingraham of Mt. Juliet, Tennessee, Jessica (Jack) Jones of Knoxville, Tennessee, Alexandria (Jason) Macias, Erica (Mike) Anderson, Christine (Brandon) Jarrett, and Angalene (Tank) Jackson, all of Texas; eleven great-grandchildren; and many beloved nieces and nephews. The family would like to express the gratitude for the excellent care provided by UT Hospice Services.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers Herbert Mouron and Alfred Mouron, Jr.; her sisters Matilda Fouts and Ruth Dunn; and her son-in-law Dennis Deapen.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Betty’s memory to UT Health Science Center for Cancer Research or Fountain City Elementary School PTA.
The family will receive friends from 2pm-4 pm at Central Baptist Church of Fountain City, 5364 North Broadway Sunday, June 1, 2025 and a funeral service will be at 4:00 pm. Graveside service will be Tuesday at 11:00 am at Lynnhurst Cemetery.
