Betty Jane Chadwick age 97 of Fountain City, passed away peacefully in her sleep early Saturday morning, October 25, 2025. She was preceded in death by her parents, Porter and Effie Chadwick, sisters, Lillian Ruth Laster and Maureen Fisher. Betty was born in Smithwood in Fountain City and graduated from Central High School in 1947. Later that same year she began working for Southern Bell (AT & T) and continued working for 37 years as a long- distance operator - retiring in 1984. She enjoyed traveling and especially loved the ocean and the beach, shopping at garage sales with Linda and eating out with family and friends. She was of the Baptist faith. Betty had a heart of gold and worried about all her family members and was always there to help if possible. Betty has one surviving sister, Linda Walker; 3 nephews: Craig Walker, Mark (Martha) Laster, and Jon (Katrina) Laster; 3 great nephews: Sam, Jason, and Daniel Laster, 1 great niece: Sarah Poplin; 3 great great nephews: J. T., James, and Levi Laster. The family would like to thank all of the University of Tennessee Hospice staff and the staff at Creekview Health and Rehabilitation for their kind and compassionate care. The family will receive friends 4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. Monday, November 3, 2025 at Mynatt Funeral Home, Fountain City Chapel followed by a Celebration of Life Service. Family and friends will meet 12:45 p.m. Tuesday, November 4, 2025 at Greenwood Cemetery for a 1:00 p.m. graveside service. Condolences may be expressed at www.mynattfh.com.
