It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Beatrice M. (Friend) Helms, age 97, who went to be with our Lord and Savior on, March 28,2026 peacefully in her sleep.
Born in Fort Wayne, Indiana, on September 4, 1928, Bea moved to Powell, Tennessee, around 1955 with her husband, Carl "Red" Helms, and their son, Michael Helms. She dedicated her life to caring for others as a nurse, retiring from St. Mary’s Hospital in the early 90s. Following her retirement, she continued her service and helped as a school nurse at Powell Elementary and room grandmother. A longtime member of First Baptist Church in Powell, she was a devoted wife, mother, sister, daughter, grandmother, and friend.
Beatrice was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Helms; her son, Michael Helms; her parents; three brothers; and two sisters. She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Tana Helms; her granddaughter, Michelle Headrick (husband Bradley); her grandson, Michael Helms II (fiancée Tonya Brewer); and her great-grandsons, Emory and Hudson Headrick.
The family wishes to express our deep gratitude to the staff at The Courtyards Senior Living and UT Hospice Services for their exceptional love and support.
In accordance with her wishes, Beatrice will be cremated and there will be no public service. She asked that you remember her as she was before the onset of dementia and Alzheimer’s—cherishing the memories of fun trips to visit family up north and the many adventures shared with loved ones.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Brickey-McCloud Elementary in her honor to support her great-grandsons. Or your local dementia and Alzheimer’s organization
