Barbara Jean Childress Witt, age 76 of Mascot, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, July 28th, 2025. She passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family and loved ones. She was a member of Green Acres Missionary Baptist Church. She was a 1966 graduate of Rule High School. She is preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Harold Witt and her parents, Charles and Joyce Busler. She is survived by her son, Kevin Welch; her daughter, Kristi (Rob) Boring; grandchildren, Natasha (Daniel) Finley, Hunter (Mackenzie) Rains, and Skyler Rains; great-grandchildren and the lights of her life, Conner Musick, Lillie Musick, and Baby Rains expected January 2026; siblings, Duwayne (Sherry) Busler, Angel (Sherman) Acuff; special nieces and nephew Brittnee (Dwight) Seal, Ashlee (John) Jarnigan, and Zach (Brooke) Acuff; a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, and sisters-in-law Edna Williams and Lois Patty. Special thanks to her UT Hospice nurse, Michelle and nurses helper Alicia and Dr. Nathan Smith and his office staff.
The family will receive friends on Monday, August 4, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at Mynatt Funeral Home, followed by funeral service at 7:00pm with Rev. Billy Acuff and Rev. Rickey Hayes officiating. Graveside service will be held on Tuesday, August 5, at 10:00am at East Tennessee State Veteran's Cemetery, 2200 E. Governor John Sevier Hwy, Knoxville, TN 37920. Pallbearers: Kevin Welch, Rob Boring, Hunter Rains, Skyler Rains, Conner Musick, Daniel Finley, Duwayne Busler, Sherman Acuff, Zach Acuff, Dwight Seal, and John Jarnigan.
She was a beloved “Mom,” “Mammaw,” and “Aunt Barbara.” While she may be away from us right now, we know she is safely in the arms of her savior and reunited with the love of her life.
