Alice Rucker Loy, a lifelong resident of Knoxville, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on June 1st, 2025, at the age of 85. A devoted wife, momma, and granny, Alice lived a life full of love, faith, purpose, and unwavering dedication to her family and community.
Alice dedicated 33 years of service to the Knox County Government, working through three administrations and making a lasting impact on the residents she served with grace and commitment. Her contributions helped shape her community, and her kindness left a mark on all who knew her. She was a proud and active member of Beaver Dam Baptist Church and poured her heart into the Halls community she loved so dearly. Whether volunteering as a poll worker on election day or serving as an officer in the Halls Crossroads Women’s League, Alice led with a spirit of generosity and service.
To her family, Alice was the cornerstone. A proud mother to Susan and Andy, she found immeasurable joy in spending time with her loved ones, especially her grandchildren, Tessa and Alex, and her great-grandchildren, Owen and Emma. Known for her unmatched cooking, you knew it was going to be a good day when you walked into the house and Granny was in the kitchen, where she filled both hearts and stomachs with every meal.
But out of all those things and times spent, there was nothing she loved more than spending time with her soulmate and best friend, H.A – or as she called him, “H-ee”. She spent her days in the garden, while H.A. tended the field. They went on many adventures together including driving to Montana, biking the Virginia Creeper Trail, hiking to waterfalls, and relaxing by the oceanside. Their love was one for the storybooks, one we could all dream and hope for, and when her beloved husband of 66 years passed, we knew she wouldn’t be far behind him. Those two wouldn’t be apart for long if they had a say in the matter.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents Jim & Sallie Rucker, siblings Christine and Zane, half siblings, Gail and Zelma, her loving husband, H.A., and her son-in-law, Buddy Tarver. She is survived by her daughter and son, Susan Tarver (Jay Witt) and Andy Loy, her granddaughters, Tessa (Donnie) Clift and Alex Loy, and her great-grandchildren, Owen and Emma Clift, along with other loving family members and friends.
