A. J. “Joe” Kinnane, III

April 16, 1940 – February 23, 2024

Joe Kinnane, 83, died Friday February 23, 2024 at Heritage Assisted Living in Fountain City. A native of Knoxville, he attended Smithwood Elementary School and graduated from Central High School, class of 1958.

 A veteran of the U.S. Army, he attended the University of Tennessee. Joe was self-employed and loved visiting old southern cities, Civil War history, was a steam engine train enthusiast as well as a talented pianist and never met a dog he didn’t like.

 Joe is survived by his son Joseph and former wife, Wanda Kinnane; brother Mike Kinnane (Anne), half-brother Jerry Kinnane, step-sister Patricia Millirons Hubbard, nephew Patrick Kinnane (Virginia), nieces Kathryn Kinnane, Beth Kinnane (Jeff Edwards), and Julie Wheeler. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Johnston Kinnane Millirons (C. P. Millirons) and A. J. “Bud” Kinnane, Jr.; his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Sherwood Johnston (Nettie Cate Hoskins) and Mr. and Mrs. A. J. “Al” Kinnane, Sr. (Mary Margaret Brennan); and his nephew Mike Kinnane. 

The family would like to thank Scott Smith and the employees of Volunteer Realty as well as David Van Norstran, a long-time employee of Joe’s. 

The family would also like to express our gratitude to the staff at Heritage Assisted Living in Fountain City, Amedisys Home Health Care and nurse practitioner Chrissy Brandon for tending to Joe and his needs the last few years of his life. 

The family will receive friends at Mynatt Funeral Home-Fountain City on Sunday, March 3 from 2-4 p.m. A graveside service will be held Tuesday, March 5, 2024 at 12:30 p.m at the East Tennessee Veterans Cemetery on John Sevier Highway.
