Adele Marie Kennedy, age 101, passed away peacefully at Sacred Heart Home in Hyattsville, MD, on March 10, 2025. Adele was a 1940 graduate of Knoxville Catholic High School and a 1944 graduate of the University of Tennessee. Before relocating to Washington DC in 1951, she taught English at Carter High in Strawberry Plains. Adele had a life long passion for art, especially children’s art. She earned an MFA from Catholic University in 1962 and became a devoted art teacher in the greater Washington DC area. She was a beloved sister, sister -in-law, aunt, and cousin to numerous family members. Adele is survived by 18 nieces and nephews, and many more, great nieces, nephews, and cousins. Adele was preceded in death by her parents John Lee and Adele Marie Foss Kennedy, brothers John Lee, Jr. (Jeanne Claire) Kennedy, Robert Foss (Josephine) Kennedy, and her niece Marjorie Ann Kennedy. All are welcome to attend Adele’s Celebration of Life 11:00 am Saturday, August 16, 2025 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 414 West Vine Street, Knoxville, TN, 37902. A short graveside service will immediately take place at Calvary Cemetery followed by a reception at the church hall. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to Sacred Heart Home, 5805 Queens Chapel Road, Hyattsville, MD, 20782 in gratitude for the exceptional care Adele received.
